travelling with pets

P&O Ferries accept the carriage of pet animals on the Calais-Dover route, at a charge of €21 each way for any travelling onboard.

If you are taking your pet(s), you will need to check-in at least one hour before departure and the animals must remain inside the vehicle at all times during the crossing.  Foot passengers are able to carry pets in RSPCA-approved containers with the animals remaining on the lower deck for the duration of the journey: please call us to make a foot passenger pet booking.

We make a charge of €21 each way for each pet travelling onboard, with the exception of registered guide and hearing dogs, which are carried free of charge. Please note that animals cannot travel unaccompanied.

For those wishing their dog, cat or ferret to travel under the PETS passport scheme, further information can be obtained from the Defra website, as well as quarantine requirements for pets that do not qualify under the scheme.  Please note, cats and dogs must be vaccinated against rabies at least 6 months before you travel, so make sure you plan well in advance.

EU legislation now allows rabbits and rodents such as guinea pigs and mice to travel too – and you won’t need a pet passport to transport them!
